Newberry, SC (WLTX) - A band that has its roots right here in the Midlands went national Friday. Their song is featured in the remake of the movie Footloose.
"You look at it - what are the chances? A lot of people go off to make a career of music and what are the chances that they really would get a big break like this?" says Nancy Satcher, mom of A Thousand Horses guitarist Bill Satcher.
She was as surprised as anyone at first. "Since I am his biggest fan, I always take the credit for it. In the 6th grade, I was so tired of him playing video games all the time, I walked into our local music store and I said, 'Who teaches guitar?" Nancy laughs, "We had no idea that he was that musically talented. My husband and I have no rhythm."
Bill and singer Michael Hobby have been working together for years and moved to Nashville after graduation.
And A Thousand Horses was born. Says Nancy, "Bill and Michael are both very talented music writers. And they wrote this song for the movie in collaboration with a friend of theirs. Just through some connections, they heard that Craig Brewer, the director, was looking for a rock song for this opening scene in the movie. And they sent their demo out there and he loved it."
And back here in Newberry, DJ Carole Murray has been playing it for the fans. "Everybody's just so excited because they're from Newberry and they're on the Footloose soundtrack," she says, "It is very much hometown pride, we are very proud of this group."
Says Nancy, "I just feel very fortunate that they are getting the opportunity to be heard."
