Columbia, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina will play in the Capital One Bowl on January 2, bowl officials announced Sunday night.
The Gamecocks will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers of the Big 10 in the matchup, set for 1 p.m. in Orlando.
USC was selected over Arkansas (10-2) and Georgia (10-3) for the bowl.
"We've got a lot to play for, that 11th win, and being the winningest team in school history," USC Coach Steve Spurrier said following the announcement.
This is not the first time the Gamecocks have played in this bowl, although it was known as the Tangerine Bowl when USC made its one appearance back in 1975. The game later became the Citrus Bowl, and finally the Capital One Bowl.
The contest is regarding as the best non BCS Bowl, and represents the highest bowl bid in South Carolina history.
Spurrier admitted that his teams haven't play well in recent bowls, but he said the attitude on this year's squad is different.
"It is an opportunity to play in a prestigious bowl," he said. "We've got a good bunch of guys."
South Carolina has faced Nebraska three times before, the last in 1987.
Game ticket prices range from $52-227. For ticket information, go to www.ticketmaster.com.
