IVA, S.C. (GreenvilleOnline) -- Anderson County authorities say an Iva man died in a violent car crash just moments after being involved in a shooting at an Upstate apartment complex.

Christopher Lee Cumber, 33, was speeding down State Rt. 184 about four miles west of Iva when he lost control of his 2003 Hyundai, struck a utility pole and was ejected from the vehicle, said Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore. He died instantly at 12:50 a.m. Sunday.

"Speed, alcohol and drugs all played a factor," Shore said, adding it was the county's six traffic fatality so far this year.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Chad McBride said investigators believe the driver may have accidentally shot a woman during a party at an Iva apartment complex on Parkview Road not long before the crash.

The woman was shot in the neck, but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, McBride said. The shooting is still under investigation today.
