Columbia, SC (WLTX) - USC assistant coach Jeep Hunter has been let go from the university, Head Coach Steve Spurrier said Friday.
Hunter had been with the school since February of 2009. This past season, he coached the squad's safeties. In his previous two seasons, he coached tight ends and helped with special teams.
A news released issued by the university said Spurrier felt the team "needed a more experienced secondary coach and has decided to go in that direction."
Hunter told GamecockCentral.com that the team "wanted to do something different."
"We wish Coach Hunter and his family the very best," said Spurrier in a statement.
GamecockCentral.com reports Hunter was also recruiting as recently as two days ago.
