Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) - A former captain with the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety is being accused of taking guns from his own department.

Harold Thad Turner, 44, has been charged with grand larceny.

An affidavit filed by the State Law Enforcement Division states that between December 2010 and February 16, 2012, took handguns and at least one shotgun from his agency's armory.

In a statement, the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety says the amount of weapons taken was eight.

According to the affidavit, Turner's wife then pawned the weapons at Johns' Jewelry & Pawn. The report goes on to say that surveillance video shows Turner taking at least one handgun.

Turner was an 18-year veteran of the force.
