Fred Watson's first coaching job at any level was at Benedict
Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- In this day and age, very few schools would hire a head coach with no coaching experience at any level. But 11 years ago, Benedict did just that when it named Fred Watson to lead its program.
After nearly 10 seasons at the helm, the results speak for themselves - more than 200 wins and NCAA Division II Tournament appearances in five of the last six seasons.
The coach acknowledges that the administration at Benedict took a chance on him and really wanted to do well, if for no other reason, than to reward the people who gave him a chance to run his own program.
Watson says his way is simple hard work and preparation. Junior Marcus Goode says Watson's biggest attribute is the fact that he treats every player equally, no matter what their totals are in the boxscore.
