Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Remember when Bruce Ellington said he was giving up football to focus exclusively on basketball at USC?
Apparently, there may have been some wiggle room in that statement.
USC Head Football Coach Steve Spurrier said Monday during his call-in show that Ellington hasn't completely closed the door on his gridiron career. Spurrier said the two talked earlier in the day, and that he's giving Ellington more time to think about whether he'd still like to play football.
Just a week earlier, Ellington said basketball was his first love and that "if you want to be good at something, you have to commit to it full-time."
Spurrier says he wants what's best for Ellington, and that he expects an answer in a few days.
It's also possible that the changes on the basketball team could factor into Ellington's decision. Last week, South Carolina fired Darrin Horn as head coach, and it's unclear how long it will take to find a replacement, or who it might be.
