Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Lots of camps that are keeping kids occupied during their spring break will also be there for them this summer and they offer so much more than just your standard sports.
If you're not sure which one is best for your child, News19 is on your side with some of the most interesting camps in the Capital City.
"Our youngest one is five years old, little Sammy. Sammy can do just about anything on a skateboard and he's no higher than maybe three feet high. So he's fun to watch," says Steve Scoma, General Manager at Plex Indoor Sports.
Daredevils like Sammy are right at home here at camps at the Plex. From soccer to roller skating - even ice skating - they've got your active kid covered.
Especially if he or she doesn't mind a few falls.
"Obviously, skill levels are different," Scoma says, "So a lot of the inexperienced skaters are learning as they watch some of the more experience skaters skate."
And if your child is more into sleuthing than skating, the South Carolina State Museum might be the perfect place. One of their camps, Secret Agent Lab, will teach your child all about crime detecting and how to be a spy.
Of course if you're kids are a little on the wild side, you'll want to head to the Riverbanks Zoo. "They're learning about animals that are loud, animals that might spit and how those actually might be able to help animals survive in their environment," explains Camp Coordinator Alma Coyle of one of their lessons.
Their camp gets you a little closer to the animals than a normal zoo visit would. Says Coyle, "We've already visited the aquarium and we'll be visiting the hyenas tomorrow."
And it puts those creepy-crawlies right at your wild child's fingertips.
There are still plenty of spots left in all three camps. But if you haven't signed your child up yet, it may be time to pick the one that suits you both best. For a list of camps all around the Midlands, click here.
