Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A $2 million Powerball ticket was sold in Columbia Saturday night.
The winner bought the ticket at the "Obama Gas Station" located on North Main Street. (The gas station named itself "Obama" last year; it is not endorsed by the president)
"He came here and he showed us the ticket and then we checked it. And it says, he's a winner," explains Khaled Hirabi, who works at the Obama gas station, of the man he says has the winning ticket.
While lottery officials haven't said if the $2 million winner has come forward yet, Hirabi told News19 he sold him the ticket. Says Hirabi, "We thought he won like $200,000."
That is, until they got a call from lottery officials Monday. Then Hirabi's reaction was, "Oh man, that's a lot of money. Two million?"
That seemed to be theme when people heard the news in the store today. Joked one customer, "I stopped to buy gas and they sold my ticket to somebody else, apparently. I hate when that happens."
Says Hirabi, "They are really excited and every time I play for them, I wish them good luck and they like that."
South Carolina Education Lottery Officials say the ticket matched all five white ball numbers drawn. The ticket holder purchased PowerPlay for an extra $1, which multiplied the winnings up to $2 million.
The odds of winning $2 million are 1 in 5,153,633.
Lottery officials say more than 13,000 players won at least $4 dollars in the drawing. If you'd like to see if you were perhaps one of the lucky ones, the winning numbers are below.
