Columbia, SC (WLTX) - There are 1,200 children in foster care in South Carolina, and now, there's a new push to help them find permanent homes.
The South Carolina Heart Gallery announced details Friday about a new statewide ad campaign called "Open Your Hearts, Open Your Doors." It's an effort designed to bring awareness to the children who need help.
Singer Edwin McCain and South Carolina First Gentleman Michael Haley as co-spokesman for the cause. Both of them were adopted, and know how important finding a permanent family for children in foster care can be.
"If it wasn't for programs like this, I don't know where I would be," McCain said Friday.
Michael Haley was unable to attend Friday's event due to his duties with the South Carolina National Guard; however, Governor Nikki Haley was there in his stead.
