Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- In a report from the Fairfield County Sheriff's office, a man who was reportedly lying on railroad tracks was struck and killed at around 8pm Monday.
According to the report, the engineer and conductor of the train, pulling 40 rail cars, rounded a corner and saw the victim laying on the tracks. Even though they sounded the train horn multiple times while locking their brakes, the victim did not move, and the train struck and killed him.
In statements acquired by Fairfield County Deputies, the unidentified victim was regularly seen walking the railroad tracks when visiting Boone's Barn Store to make a purchase.
Officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances.
