Saluda County, SC (WLTX) - Governor Nikki Haley will name an interim sheriff for Saluda County early next week.

Haley's office had initially hoped to name a replacement for Jason Booth Friday; however, Spokesman Rob Godfrey said Friday afternoon, "we are still doing our due diligence on a few of the candidates being considered, and we'll have an appointment ready to announce early next week."

Booth resigned Thursday morning. Shortly afterward, it was announced that he had been indicted by a state grand jury on a charge of misconduct in office.

The indictment states Booth used an inmate on loan to the county from the South Carolina Corrections Department to do construction work at his house.

A new permanent sheriff won't be in place until January's inauguration. Democrat John Perry and Republican Pat Griffith are running for that seat.
