Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia attorney Mary Geiger Lewis has been confirmed by the US Senate as a US District Judge in South Carolina.

Senators voted 64-27 in favor of her Monday afternoon. From South Carolina, Sen. Lindsey Graham voted for her while Sen. Jim DeMint opposed her nomination.

Geiger is an attorney with the Lewis and Babcock law firm. In her 25 years of practicing law, she's represented plaintiffs and defendants in civil suits.

Lewis is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law.

She was nominated by President Obama after a recommendation by Rep. James Clyburn.
