Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Toucan Tuesdays are back at the Riverbanks Zoo.

The effort kicked of Tuesday, as children from St. Lawrence Place dropped off food items.

The campaign between the zoo and Harvest Hope Food Bank aims to feed hungry families in Midlands.

Every Tuesday this summer from June 12 until August 28, two people can visit Riverbanks for the price of one with a donation of two cans of non-perishable food to Harvest Hope.

It's the third straight year this program has taken place.

"We're always looking for a way to give back," says Susan O'Cain, Communications Specialist for the Riverbanks Zoo. "[Harvest Hope] helps so many people on a daily basis"

"We want to provide meals, we want to provide food for families that are struggling a little bit right now, working families that are having a hard time making ends meet," says Skot Garrick with Harvest Hope.

Last summer over 2,000 pounds of food was collected by Riverbanks Zoo during Toucan Tuesdays, providing over 10,000 meals for hungry families.
