Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Fort Jackson plans to close Gate 2 at Forest Drive for renovations from July 9 through September 20. The military says the gate needs upgrades in order to meet Department of Defense regulations for security.
The plans call for additional lanes, wider lanes, and a new sign at Gate 2.
Starting July 9, visitors will be required to use Gate 4 which is at Percival Road. From 5 to 9 a.m. it will be open only for inbound traffic to help ease congestion.
Fort Jackson reminds all personnel to allow additional time to get into the base during the construction.
