Saluda County, SC (WLTX)- It's been a busy week for Batesburg- Leesvillle native, Luther Harris Nossett.

He was approached by several people in Saluda County on Friday, received a call from Governor Haley Monday and was appointed the position of Interim Saluda County Sheriff Tuesday.

This comes after the former Saluda County Sheriff, Jason Booth, resigned from his position after being indicted by a Grand Jury last week.

He's accused of using an inmate for work on his private property for almost six years.

Nossett says he and the staff are ready to move forward.

"I really don't want to get into the past. I thought very highly of Sheriff Booth, he has been very nice to me and it's a very unfortunate situation. We are going to away from it as quickly as possible."

Nossett comes to the job with a long history in law enforcement.

He spent nearly 20 years at the Fairfax County Police Department, several years as a program manager at Boeing and over the last two years he has been volunteering as a reserve deputy with the Saluda Sheriff's Department.

"My main job is to fill in and do the best job I can and get us all focused back on getting the job done...it's quite an honor to be asked by the Governor to do something for the community," Said Nossett.

Democrat John Perry and Republican Pat Griffith and will face off in November for the Sheriff position.
