Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies say a man drowned on Lake Murray Sunday afternoon.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the man as 87-year-old Jackson Barwick of Chapin.
Watts says Barwick was in waist-deep water cooling off from the heat when he called out for help. Barwick was only under the water for a short time before help arrived.
Friends and family performed CPR, and he was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead around 7 p.m..
Barwick was a well-known attorney in Columbia, serving as a senior partner of Belser, Baker, Barwick, Ravenel & Bender in Columbia until his retirement in 2000.
