Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- News 19 has received a copy of surveillance video showing the minutes before and after a dump truck ran over and killed a man in a motorized wheelchair.
This surveillance video shows just how - in a spit second - an accident can happen. A camera, pointing at the intersection of Greene and Harden streets in Five Points, shows a man on a motorized wheelchair entering the frame at 10:10am.
He waits at the crosswalk for 50 seconds. That's when a dump truck pulls up to the light and stops. At 10:11am the man attempts to cross. His chair moves forward, then turns to the right.
With his back to the truck, he's hit and dragged around the corner onto Greene Street. Because of the graphic nature we are not showing all of the video.
Witnesses ran to the man's aid to help. One car pulled in the right turning lane blocked traffic as to avoid other cars from hitting him. Seven minutes later Richland County EMS arrives.
Off camera, the driver told us that he is devastated. Investigators took pictures of the truck and interviewed witnesses, attempting to get any clues into the accident that took one's man's life.
No charges have been filed at this time and the incident is still under investigation. This is the third pedestrian versus car accident at that intersection this year. Back in May a twenty four year old was hit and killed crossing Harden street.

News19 spoke with the SCDOT about adding extra safety features for pedestrians at that intersection.
Thad Brunson sent us this response: "That intersection is pedestrian and wheelchair friendly. Right now there are no plans to do a study of that intersection. No study has been conducted; therefore, we have no plans to modify the area."
