Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- It is believed that a sparsely filled room prevented an early morning arson attempt from consuming a building housing the Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services.

Columbia fire officials received an early morning call at bout 6:30am to 1221 Gregg Street. Upon arrival they discovered what appeared to be a smoke bomb had been thrown through a window, in what they believe is an attempt to ignite a fire inside the building.

Luckily for the agency, the tile-floored room where the suspected smoke bomb landed only had a few chairs inside, so there was nothing to feed flames.
