Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Weather records have been kept in Columbia, South Carolina since 1887. In the 125 years since, people have witnessed the invention of the airplane, two world wars, and a man walking on the Moon.

No one in the capital, however, has seen a temperature higher than the one recorded Friday.

At 4 p.m., the National Weather Service in Columbia recorded a high temperature of 109 degrees, breaking the old mark of 107.

The previous all-time record high was set first in 1952 and most recently hit in 2007.

The record-high day continues a sweltering stretch that began Thursday, when the high reached 100 degrees. Triple-digit highs are forecast until next Tuesday.
