Columbia, SC (WLTX) -SCE&G filed paperwork asking for a rate increase of 6.6 percent.
We're told the increase is needed to help maintain the companies equipment.
They have 20,000 miles of wires and 500,000 utility poles that are in need of maintenance in order to keep power running smoothly.
Hearings on the rate increase should take place in November. If approved, the rate hike would hit electric bills in January.
