Columbia, SC (WLTX) The fire at a plastics recycling plant that began on Friday and spewed smoke for practically the entire Midlands to see is out.
The World Wide Recycling plant fire on Foreman Street in Cayce, began a little after 9am on Friday and continued to burn and smolder for almost three days.
Early Sunday morning, with the use of heavy equipment, fire fighters were able to get to all of the hot spots and declare the fire officially out.
Cayce Department of Public Safety is still investigating the cause of the fire and no property damage estimates are available.
On Saturday, runoff from the fire, reached the Congaree River.
The city of Cayce stopped drawing water into their potable water system as they continue, along with DHEC to test for contaminant.
The city of West Columbia has been supplying water to Cayce, while testing continues.
The City of Cayce water customers are asked to refrain from use of city water for any outside use, to include yard watering and car washing.
