(WLTX) - On Tuesday, America lost a true entertainment legend: Andy Griffith.
Griffith died at the age of 86.
In movies, tv shows, stage productions, and stand up routines, Griffith helped generations of Americans laugh--and learn a few lessons along the way.
Programming Note: News19 will air Andy Griffith episodes today from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Of course, he'll be best remembered for "The Andy Griffith Show," where he starred as Sheriff Andy Taylor, the keeper of the peace for the idyllic fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina.
WLTX-TV has long been the home of the "The Andy Griffith Show," and as a special tribute, we dedicated a portion of our 7 p.m. newscast to looking back on Griffith's life and accomplishments. We even did it in black and white. We shared our viewers and our own picks for our favorite episodes, traveled up to the real life inspiration for Mayberry, and took a trip to find the Midlands' version of "Andy Taylor."
We've attached the segment here for you to view. Enjoy, as we take this opportunity to say thank you to an American icon.
