Richland County, SC (WLTX) - One person is dead after colliding into a highway patrol trooper.
Richland County deputies said the highway patrol was conducting a routine traffic stop at I-20 and mile marker 79E around 6 p.m. Wednesday night.
Deputies said the driver in a Ford Fusion took off and a chase ensued.
Officials said the suspect made a turn in the Fort Jackson National Cemetary, but suddenly turned around and crashed into the trooper.
Deputies said the driver died on the scene, but the trooper is expected to be okay.
The accident remains under investigation by the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
