Richland County, SC (WLTX) -- Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says one of his officers was involved in a shooting Thursday morning.

According to Lott, one of his officers saw a domestic altercation at the Quality Inn on Longcreek Drive around 4:00am Thursday morning.

He says his deputy and the suspect, now identified as 30-year-old Keith J. Durham, got in an altercation. During the struggle, Lott says Durham grabbed the officers taser and used it on the deputy. The officer then fired his weapon several times shooting Durham and killing him.

The deputy suffered injuries to his knee and arm during the altercation, and was treated at the scene and transported to Palmetto Richland Hospital.

Lott says Durham had a large bag of cocaine on him, and that he believes the suspect may have been involved in criminal activity.
