Camden, SC (WLTX) - A black bear, spotted over the weekend in a Camden neighborhood, has been captured and taken from the area.
A spokesperson for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources tells News19 the bear was tranquilized by a DNR officer about 1:00 a.m. Monday morning. The bear has since been released in a rural area near the Wateree River.
On Sunday, the black bear had made its way up a tree in a neighborhood on Lyttleton Street. Homeowners noticed the bear when their dogs started barking.
Department of Natural Resources Officials say it's uncommon for black bears to be spotted in the Midlands. However, there have been black bear sightings in 45 of South Carolina's 46 counties.
