Richland County, SC (WLTX) - An overturned turkey truck slowed traffic for hours along Interstate 26 coming into Columbia Monday morning.
The truck overturned just before 4 a.m. in the median in the eastbound lanes at mile marker 100 in Richland County.
No people were seriously hurt in the accident.
Video recorded by News19 at the scene shows the trailer on its side, and the birds could be seen moving around inside.
State troopers say the truck was from Prestage Farms. Officers say a lot of the animals died in the collision.
Crews spent several hours cleaning up the scene. Eastbound lanes were blocked by tractor trailers being used to load and transport the remaining live turkeys and cart away the dead ones; a wrecker blocked part of the westbound ones.
