Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Federal and local agents have arrested multiple alleged gang members as part of a large effort to crack down on the criminal groups.
The FBI and the U.S. Attorney's office announced the arrests Wednesday, after a 134 count federal indictment was unsealed in court.
In the indictment, federal prosecutors say various members of the group committed narcotics and firearms violations, ran prostitution effort and sex trafficking operations, committed robberies, and filed false tax returns.
A total of 35 people are named in the indictment. One of the suspects is a native of Columbia who moved out to Los Angeles. All of the others are from Columbia.
In a series of raids conducted with search warrants, agents say they found drugs and guns. The arrests were made after a nearly two year investigation into the dealings of this particular gang.
News19 is not naming the specific gang targeted as part of a long-standing policy. Our news agency believes, after consulting wtih law enforcement agencies, that publicizing the name glorifies the group's activities.
