Irmo, Sc (WLTX) -- Pastor Bob Vincent of Shady Grove Methodist Church wants to why someone would spray paint "There is no God" on one of his church buildings.
Besides your occasional car or tractor passing on Shady Grove Road, time seems to move a little slower in the quiet community right outside the Irmo town limits.
"It's quiet, it's peaceful. It's a family atmosphere."
That may be why it came as a surprise to pastor Bob Vincent of Shady Grove Methodist Church, when he walked up to find graffiti on his church.
"This was the first incident that happened on Friday night. It said 'There is no God.' Right below painted in red, it was an atheist symbol. Ironically they misspelled atheism when they did that," said Vincent.
A third piece of graffiti read "God equals delusion." Messages that have left Vincent disappointed.
"There is a great group of young people in this community, and to see this go on is disheartening," said Vincent. "You would think that someone wouldn't damage a church or do that to a church you would think that is sacred. But you never know."
The pastor says they will repaint the building and get back to life as they know it, hoping to send a message of his own to whomever did this.
"We have faith that this will be resolved and that there will be a learned lesson from it and especially from the person who has done this damage."
There is a $1000 reward leading to the arrest of those who committed the crime. If you have any information, you are urged to call Crimestoppers. That number is 1-888-crime-sc.
