Sumter, SC (WLTX) - A Sumter County Sheriff's Deputy has resigned after a violation of policy was determined, according to Sheriff Anthony Dennis.

Dennis says that Willie McFadden resigned on Friday following an incident involving alcohol and a county car.

According to Dennis, Sumter deputies spotted McFadden's car on Highway 521 S., parked in the road.  Deputies then called the South Carolina Highway Patrol to determine if McFadden was under the influence, Dennis said.

The sheriff tells News19 that an "administrative" test was done to determine if drugs or alcohol were present, although the test did not involve a breathalyzer. Dennis said alcohol was detected but that no ticket was given and no arrests were made.

McFadden handed in his resignation on Friday because of the violation of policy, according to Dennis. McFadden worked in the narcotics division.
