Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - For the second time in two days, Kershaw County Sheriff investigators have arrested a man in connection with the sexual assault of a minor.

James Walter Owens, 38, of Lee County has been charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11 and two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 14.

The Kershaw County sheriff's department received a report from a family member that the man had molested three girls.

One of the alleged victims, a 15-year-old, told deputies that Owens has been sexually abusing her since she was 11-years-old.

The girl told deputies that the abuse took place at several different locations in Kershaw County.

"This kind of abuse is very disturbing and is all too prevalent in our society.  What is more disturbing is the very real likelihood that much of this kind of activity goes unreported," said Sheriff Matthews.

Owens was arrested at the Kershaw County Sheriff's office after he came in to be interviewed.  He is currently being detained at the Kershaw county Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing before a Circuit Court judge.

Additional charges against an adult who was aware of the abuse may be forthcoming.
