Columbia, SC (WLTX) After embezzling over $330,000 from the Allendale County Bank and then attempting to set fire to the bank, April Adams, 40 of Leesville was sentenced to 60 months and will be required to pay back the amount she was convicted of stealing.

At a guilty plea hearing in February, Adams admitted that she stole money from the Allendale County Bank where she worked as a teller between May and June of 2011.

Bank officials learned of the problem when Adams told other bank employees to post a sign at the bank, stating that the bank could not cash checks due to lack of funds.

When bank officials started an investigation, Adams tried to burn the bank vault and its contents in an attempt to destroy evidence of her theft.

She also attempted to set fire to the exterior of the bank.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Assistant United States Attorney Dean A. Eichelberger handled the case.
