Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Brett Parker was in court Thursday for the first time since being charged with the double murder of his wife and family friend.

Circuit Court Judge DeAndrea Benjamin denied bond for Parker, who is accused of killing 44-year-old Tammy Parker and 46-year-old Bryan Capnerhurst.

At the hearing, we began to learn more about what prosecutors say is the a motive behind that murder that took place in an upscale Irmo neighborhood back on April 13th.

During Thursday's hearing, prosecutors called the double murder "premeditated" and a "cold blooded killing by Parker". Also shedding light on two extra-marital affairs Parker was allegedly having 4 months prior to the shootings.

Prosecutors also saying Parker was thousands of dollars in debt and stood to gain almost $1 million in insurance and $200,000 from his wife's 401k plan.

Defense fighting back saying the case is more "innuendo than fact" and questioned why it took 3 months to charge him.

Heyward Barnes, the stepson of Bryan Capnerhurst, was the only family member to speak out in court.

"Our loving father and husband was taken away from us. Each day for the past three and a half months the concern for safety for our family has taken an immense emotional toll on our mother and little sister. Getting through each day has been a struggle."

Prosecutors said Tammy Parker was shot 5 times and Capnerhurst was shot 4 times inside the home.

Brett Parker's attorney maintains that it was Capnerhurst who shot Tammy Parker, and that Mr. Parker killed his friend in self-defense.

Judge Benjamin granting the defense to petition the court for a rehearing in six months.
