Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Usually, Harvest Hope is giving help to the community; however, now they say they could use a little assist from the public themselves.

The food bank is facing a major food shortage, and many of their shelves are completely bare. The food that has been allotted for residents in Richland County is almost all  gone.

The fook bank's resources are strained during summer months when residents who rely on free or reduced school lunches during the year struggle to put food on the table for their children.

Maggie Knowles with the food bank says that all kids of donations are needed. For information on how you can help, visit the Harvest Hope's website at harvest hope dot org, or give them a call at 254-4432
