Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies say robbery is a possible motive in the killing of a 72-year-old man over the weekend.

Robert Lewis Mitchell Sr., 72, was found dead by his son in his home on Juniper Springs Road Saturday morning. Investigators believe Mitchell was shot and killed between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m.

He's last been seen alive about 3:20 a.m. Saturday at the 44 Truck Stop on Pond Branch Road near Gilbert, where he bought snacks.

Detectives say several of Mitchell's personal items are missing from his home. Officers also think Mitchell might have been acquainted with the person or persons who shot and killed him.
