Gadsden, SC (WLTX)- It is being called the most extensive and severe drought in the last 50 years.

"This is what is going to hurt us this year," said Steven Odom as he sifts through his corn feed.

Odom has 100,000 quail chicks to feed at his Manchester Farm in Gadsden.

"We use about 60 tons a week." The problem for Odom? The price of corn is up 50 percent and his feed consists of 90 percent corn.

"Overall with the drought we anticipate it is going to raise our price probably 10 to 20 percent," said Odom.

The increase in cost isn't just being passed on to farmers, shoppers are going to feel the pinch too.

"Food prices are going to go up... no doubt about it."

After three years in a recession Odom was hoping for a break but with record heat and record corn prices, there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.

"We are in the perfect storm of bad situations right now".
