Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A Leesburg Road man was taken to the hospital just after midnight early Tuesday after he was assaulted by a burglar he discovered in his home.
The victim, who Richland County Sheriff Deputies have not identified, arrived home near midnight and surprised the burglar, who had a knife, and had gained entry to the home.
They got into a physical altercation, resulting in the victim suffering non-life-threatening injuries to his upper body before he escaped to a gas station nearby, where he called 911.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries, and Deputies say his wallet and two tract phones were stolen.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the break-in and assault.
