FORT JACKSON, SC (WLTX)-- A fire, Tuesday, at Fort Jackson has resulted in the military installation operating on limited power, according to officials there.
The fire happened at the electrical substation that feeds the post. As a result, much of the fort is without power and phone service, and operations are limited.
According to a news release sent a short time ago, Moncrief Army Community Hospital is running on back-up power and has limited ability to handle urgent care services. If there is an emergency, fort officials suggest that people call 911 or seek help at an off-post emergency facility.
Hospital officials are asking anyone with an appointment to reschedule for a time when phone and electrical services are restored. The number to call is 751-2273.
Crews from SCE&G and Fort Jackson are working to restore power and to determine the cause of the fire.
