Sumter, SC (WLTX) -- Sumter Police have arrested a suspect in connection to a shooting death early Saturday morning.

Jarmon Martin, 28, was arrested Saturday evening without incident.

Police say that at 12:50 Saturday morning, Martin was at a social gathering at a residence in the 600 block of Omarest Drive. According to Authorites, Martin and the victim, Jerry Ratchford, 47, got into an altercation on the front yard. Eventually Martin took out a gun and shot Ratchford several times in the abdomen, according to police.

Ratchford was transported to Tuomey Regional Medical Center for initial treatment and then transferred to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
