Columbia, SC (WLTX) - While many have cheered on team USA during the Olympics, a group of USC students are working behind the scenes.

"When I got the random email I freaked out," said Grace Dawson Beatty.

For any college student getting accepted into an internship program is a big deal, but when it's at the summer Olympics in London, it's even better.

"I called my mom and all my family, I just couldn't stop being happy," said Beatty.

Beatty and 49 other USC students are spending their summer learning about event management. Beatty works directly with the athletes.

"Personally I think my job is the best because I don't have to do any catering or waste management, I get to manage the housekeepers in the Olympic Village."

She oversees 60 workers and while she admits it's a lot of work, she says it's an unbelievable opportunity.

"I am definitely on an Olympic high, I barely have had 3 hours of sleep, I have been doing it for 10 days and everyone is so positive and so excited and you are seeing so many people from so many different countries. "

And when she's not working, Beatty gets to see history happen right before her eyes. Like watching Michael Phelps win in the 100 meter butterfly for the 3rd time in a row.

"It was such a momentous occasion and just hearing the roar from the crowd was unbelievable just everyone just standing up no matter what country you are from and people were just so excited about it. "
Its a experience she will never forget.

"I'm working in history right now, you know being in the same venue with Phelps when he won the 3rd gold, working in the Olympic village, being able to talk to a Brazilian basketball player on an elevator, I am going to be able to go home and have stories to tell forever, to my children and grandchildren and it's been just amazing."
