Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The USC football team worked out in the morning for the first time this summer as they prepare for the start of the upcoming football season.

The team went through drills Monday morning at their Bluff Road practice facility. Up until this point, the team had been practicing in the evening.

"This was the first hot day," said head coach Steve Spurrier. "I think we did ok.  You always watch the big guys. They were fine and we kept a very good eye on all of them."

One bit of bad news out of practice--Spurrier says the team has lost freshman cornerback Rico McWilliams for the season. McWilliams hurt his knee during practice over the weekend when he collided with another player, and will require surgery.

The team returns to the practice field Tuesday morning at 8:30.

USC held their media day Sunday, where Spurrier talked about the upcoming season and Marcus Lattimore discussed returning from his knee injury. Previous Coverage: USC Holds Media Day
