Columbia, SC (WLTX) - College hopefuls who don't make it into USC out of high school may have another way to become a Gamecock.

The Gamecock Gateway will allow incoming in state freshman to live at USC while taking classes at Midlands Tech's Airport campus. After one year, they'll have an opportunity to transfer into USC.

During that year, students will have access to USC services like meal plans, gyms, and intramural sports teams.

"We believe they're students who will benefit from additional academic support to succeed as Carolina students," said USC President Harris Pastides. "The kind of support provided by Midlands Tech College has become famous for."

The program is invitation only. USC says the first class will have 165 students.
