Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Wade Michael Page, the man police say opened fire killing six people at a Wisconsin Sikh temple, apparently once performed with his Neo-Nazi rock group in South Carolina.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Page was a member of two skinhead bands. One of them was the band Definite Hate.
Video on YouTube shows the band performing in 2007 at the Nazi Socialist Movement Hall in Laurens, South Carolina.
"This man has been in the thick of the white supremacist music scene in this country for a good dozen years now. We've been tracking him for over 10 years. He has played in some of the most infamous white supremacist bands in this country," said Mark Potok with Southern Poverty Law Center.
The video shows the group performing under a giant Swastika flag with the face of Adolph Hitler on it. WLTX has posted the video without the audio to avoid repeating the band's message of white supremacy.
"This is an incredibly violent scene. The Neo-Nazi music scene is really a subculture of very extreme violence. He existed in a world of skinhead concerts which people are routinely beat-up, sometimes killed, often merely for looking at someone's girlfriend the wrong way," said Potok.
The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks hate groups and lists 27 in South Carolina, with four in the Midlands.
Investigators say Page also posted frequent comments online in skinhead forums.
