Chappells, SC (WLTX)- It started out as an ordinary Thursday night in the Floyd residence until storms rolled through Newberry County.

"The tree actually fell on the house and then rolled on the side," Newberry County Deputy Daniel Floyd says there was an uninvited guest that came crashing through.

"We ran and grabbed our daughter out of the living room, it was falling where she was and we were able to get her back into the house," said Deputy Floyd.

Floyd and his wife are also volunteer firefighters and instead of helping others they found themselves on the receiving end.

"After everything we both had a moment where we broke down and realized how lucky we both were. The community and law enforcement has been so great and we realized how bad it could have been."

Floyd says they are beginning to assess the damage this afternoon and hope to be back in their house in two months.
