Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies are searching for a man they say shot a vulnerable adult.

Officers say around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, they responded to Palmetto Health Richland after a 49-year-old man was admitted there who'd been shot in the lower body.

Hospital officials say the man's relatives brought him to the emergency room. Doctors confirmed the man is both intellectually disabled and deaf.

After speaking with the man and his family, deputies were able to determine some of the sequence of events leading to the crime. Officers say around 11:30 p.m. Monday, the man was visiting his parents' home on Bluff Road. He then walked home from their house; however, about 15 minutes later, he returned with his wounds.

Officers say it was difficult for the man to communicate what had happened to him to his family.
