Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York signed midfielder Lloyd Sam,
who played in England from 2003-12, on Thursday.
Sam has played for Charlton Athletic, Leyton Orient, Sheffield Wednesday,
Southend United, Leeds United and Notts County in various levels in England.
"Lloyd has impressed our coaching staff during his trial in New York and we
are pleased to sign him," said Red Bulls general manager and sporting director
Erik Soler. "He is someone who has good speed and can play a number of roles
in our squad."
Sam, 27, makes the switch to MLS after a long career in England. He began his
career in 2003 with Charlton Athletic and remained with the club through 2010.
He made 119 appearances for Charlton, and scored six goals.
During his time with Charlton, Sam went on loan to Leyton Orient, Sheffield
Wednesday, and Southend United. He was at Leeds United from 2010-12 and spent
time on loan with Notts County in 2012.
Sam will be available for selection pending the receipt of his International
Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.
