Richland County, SC (WLTX) - The Fifth Circuit Solicitor's office has cleared a Richland County deputy in a case where he shot and killed a suspect.
Solicitor Dan Johnson determined Deputy Reginald Grant was within the law when he shot and killed 31-year-old Keith J. Durham.
On July 5, Deputy Grant was patrolling around the Long Creek Drive off Bush River Road, an area he says deputies say is known for drugs and prostitution. Lott says Grant saw what he thought was a domestic disturbance involving Durham.
He says a 75 yard chase and fight followed. During the struggle, Durham took Grant's taser and hit the officer in the leg with the weapon.
Prosecutors say Durham pointed the taser at Grant again, which forced Grant to shoot the suspect.
Johnson felt Durham's actions forced Grant to take action, and has officially closed the matter.
