Isaac Becomes Hurricane; Landfall Soon in Louisiana

(WLTX) - Isaac is now a hurricane as it prepares to make landfall in Louisiana.

The National Hurricane Center sent an update just before 12:30 p.m. Monday saying that hurricane hunter aircraft had noticed an increase in strength.

The storm currently has 80 miles an hour sustained winds, making it a Category 1, the weakest rating for a hurricane. For a storm to be a hurricane, it must have sustainded winds in excess of 74 miles an hour.

A hurricane warning is in effect from the western tip of the Florida panhandle to the Mississippi River delta in Louisiana.
