Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have an arrest warrant for a man they say pretended to be a doctor and saw as many as 500 patients.
Ernest Osei Addo, 48, is currently in custody in Austell, Georgia where he was arrested Friday at his home there. Deputies are working to extradite him back to South Carolina.
According to deputies, between February 15 and August 22, Addo unlawfully practiced medicine at five Agape senior care facilities in Lexington and Richland counties:
--Agape Senior West Columbia, 2705 Leaphart Road, West Columbia
--Agape Senior Kathwood, 4520 Trenholm Road, Columbia
--Agape Senior Harbison, 990 Columbia Avenue, Irmo
--Agape Senior Lexington, 5422 Augusta Road, Lexington
--Agape Rehab, 300 Agape Drive, West Columbia
According to deputies, Addo was able to deceive his employers by presenting documents claiming to be a man from Orangeburg who is licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina. After seeing the documents, Agape hired Addo; he quit working there on August 22.
Apparently, deputies say Addo was a friend of the man who he pretended to be. However, investigators say the actual man reported Addo to deputies for identity theft this week, saying Addo also unlawfully got credit cards in his name.
Agape Senior is cooperating fully with sheriff's department detectives.
