Police: Man Wanted for Cook Out Shooting

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Columbia Police say they are looking for a man who is wanted for attempted murder and armed robbery.

CPD says on July 21st, 22-year old Billy Jo Downs Junior allegedly shot a victim at the Cook Out in Five Points where the suspect was previously employed.

Officials say the victim was in their car at the parking lot of the restaurant when Downs approached the victim with a handgun and demanded money.

According to police, the victim attempted to drive away and Downs shot at the car.

CPD says the bullet grazed the victim's shoulder. The victim was treated and released from a local hospital.

Once arrested, Downs is expected to be charged with

  • Attempted Murder
  • Attempted Armed Robbery
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime
  • Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Conveyance.

Police say Downs may have connections to the Greenville/Spartanburg area.
